Recovery Using Disaster Recovery Backup: Retrieving Disaster Recovery Backup from Media

When no export copy of the Disaster Recovery (DR) backup metadata exists, you must restore the metadata from the backup. If the DR backup metadata is on a disk media, you must download the Media Explorer tool to catalog and restore the data. If the DR backup metadata is on a tape media, you can use the Media Explorer tool or the CommServe’s Tape Catalog feature to catalog and restore the data.

Using the Media Explorer Tool

To retrieve DR backups from a tape or disk media by using the Media Explorer tool, perform the following tasks in the order listed:

  1. Download the Media Explorer tool.
  2. Locate and catalog the media.
  3. Recover the CommServe Database.

Using the Tape Catalog

To retrieve DR backups from a tape media by using the CommServe's Tape Catalog feature, perform the following tasks in the order listed:

  1. Catalog the DR Backup Tapes.
  2. View and merge the catalogued contents from the tapes.
  3.  Enable browse and restore of the merged DR Backup jobs.
  4. Restore the merged DR Backup jobs.
