Disabling a MediaAgent

Disable the old MediaAgent prior to recovering the MediaAgent to a new computer in the event of a disaster:

Before You Begin

Make sure to meet the requirements specified in Prepare for a Disaster Recovery.

Procedure

  1. Record the list of SnapProtect packages installed on the old MediaAgent.
    1. From the CommCell Browser, navigate to Storage Resources | MediaAgents.
    2. Right-click the appropriate MediaAgent, point to View, and then click Installed Software.

      In the Installed Software dialog box, record the list of SnapProtect packages that are installed on the old MediaAgent.

  2. Record the associated Storage Policies.
    1. From the CommCell Browser, navigate to Storage Resources | MediaAgents.
    2. Right-click the appropriate MediaAgent, and then click Properties.
    3. Click the Associated Storage Policies tab and record the listed Storage Policies.
  3. Record the associated client information.
    1. From the CommCell Browser, navigate to Policies | Storage Policies.
    2. Right-click the appropriate storage policy, and then click Properties.
    3. Click the Associated Subclients tab and record the listed clients.
  4. Disable all job activities on each client.
    1. From the CommCell Browser, navigate to Client Computers.
    2. Right-click the appropriate client, and then click Properties.
    3. Click the Activity Control tab.
    4. Clear the Enable Backup and Enable Restore check boxes.
    5. Click OK.
  5. Verify and ensure that there are no jobs running on the old MediaAgent.
    1. On the ribbon in the CommCell Console, click the Home tab, and then click Job Controller.
    2. From the Job Controller window, click the MediaAgent column to view the list of jobs that are running on the old MediaAgent.
    3. Stop all running jobs or wait for the jobs to complete.

      To stop the running job, right-click the job, and then click Kill.

  6. Disconnect the tape library from the old MediaAgent, and then connect the tape library to the new MediaAgent.

    Do not deconfigure the library from the CommCell Console.

  7. If the old MediaAgent had an index cache sharing arrangement (Index Cache Server or Index Cache Using Network Share), you must migrate to a local index cache. See Transitioning from a Shared Index Cache.
  8. If you have configured the Remote Software Cache on the old MediaAgent, then record all the clients associated with the old MediaAgent.
    1. On the ribbon in the CommCell Console, click the Tools tab, and then click Add/Remove Software.
    2. Click Add/Remove Software Configuration.
    3. In the Add/Remove Software Configuration dialog box, click the Remote Software Cache tab.
    4. Under Computer column, select the old MediaAgent, and then click Edit.
    5. In the Modify Remote Software Cache Information dialog box, click Add/Remove Clients.
    6. Record all of the clients and client groups listed in the Selected Clients/Client Groups box, and then click OK.
    7. Click OK.
