You can secure files on your laptop by locking files with Data Loss Prevention (DLP). When a file is locked, its contents are encrypted. Only an DLP authorized user can unlock and read the contents of locked files (see Viewing and Removing DLP Authorized Users). You can lock files and perform other DLP functions remotely from your Web Console account, or you can lock files directly from your laptop's file system. Your administrator can also lock files and folders on your laptop from the CommCell Console DLP settings.
DLP Settings in the Web Console
The DLP settings in the Web Console enable you to lock files on your laptop from any web browser. When you lock files and folders using the DLP settings in the Web Console, the files and folders in your DLP settings are also automatically locked if your laptop is ever reported missing. That is why we recommend using the DLP settings in the Web Console to secure your most important files and folders.
With the DLP settings in the Web Console, you can perform the following tasks:
- Configuring DLP Settings on Your Laptop from the Web Console
- Reporting Your Missing Laptop
- Erasing Data on Your Missing Laptop
Secure Files from Your Laptop's File System
With DLP, you can also lock files and folders directly from your laptop's file system. This method is useful for locking individual files on an as-needed basis. If you lock and unlock files directly from your laptop and your laptop is reported missing, then only the files that are locked at the time your laptop is reported missing are secured. See Locking Files from Your Laptop's File System.
