Event Viewer

The following sections provide context-sensitive help information related to this feature.

Event Details

Use this dialog box to view the following information about the selected event:

  • Event ID

    A unique numerical identifier indicating the sequence in which the event was received by the CommServe. Because the most recent events are displayed towards the top of the dialog box, the numbers in the Event ID column are sorted in descending order.

  • Severity

    Indicates the severity level of each event. The following severity levels are available:

    Information - Indicates a normal, expected event. Reported informational events include the initiation and completion of key jobs and operations.

    Minor - Indicates an abnormal or unexpected event that does not affect running processes.

    Major - Indicates a major error affecting a single CommServe, MediaAgent, client, or application.

    Critical - Indicates critical system conditions affecting multiple CommServe, MediaAgents, clients or applications.

  • Date

    The date and time on which the event took place.

  • Event Code

    A unique number linking to troubleshooting and knowledgebase articles from the customer support website. This is useful if you wish to obtain information about the job failure reasons.

  • Computer

    The computer on which the event occurred.

  • Program

    The subsystem that generated the event.

  • Job ID

    A unique number that identifies the data protection, data recovery, or administration operation that generated the system event.

  • Description

    A detailed description of the event.

User Preferences (Event Filter)

Use this dialog box to select the event severity levels and the maximum number of events that are shown on the Event Viewer.

Information

Indicates a normal, expected event. Reported information events include the initiation and completion of jobs and operations.

Minor

Indicates an abnormal or unexpected event that does not affect running processes.

Major

Indicates a major error affecting the CommServe, MediaAgent, client or application.

Critical

Indicates critical system conditions affecting the CommServe, MediaAgents, clients or applications.

Maximum number of events in Event Viewer

Sets the maximum number of events to be displayed in the Event Viewer.

The default severity levels are Information, Minor, Major and Critical. The default maximum number of events displayed in the Event Viewer is 200. The maximum number of events is 1000.

Event Selection (Time Range)

Use this dialog box to display only those events that took place after a given time, before a given time, or within a specified time frame in your search query.

Select from this search query

Select this option and choose a previously defined search query.

Delete

Click this button to delete a search query.

Create a search query

Select this option to create a search query.

Time Range

  • View From

    Allows you to set the time of the earliest event to appear in your search query.

    First Event - Select to display events starting with the oldest event. The oldest event is based on if the event log has been pruned.

    Events On - Select to display events that occurred through the specified date and time.

  • View To

    Allows you to set the time of the latest event to appear in your search query. 

    Last Event - Select to display events through the latest event.

    Events On - Select to display events that occurred through the specified date and time.

Save this search query as

Select this option and enter a name to save the search query. The saved search query can then be selected from the drop down list in the Select from this search query field.

Event Selection (Severity)

Use this dialog box to display events at one or more of the severity levels in your search query. (Major and critical are selected by default.)

Select from this search query

Select this option and choose a previously defined search query.

Delete

Click this button to delete a search query.

Create a search query

Select this option to create a search query.

Severity

  • Information 

Indicates a normal, expected event. Reported information events include the initiation and completion of key jobs and operations.

  • Minor

Indicates an abnormal or unexpected event that does not affect running processes.

  • Major 

Indicates a major error affecting a single client or application.

  • Critical 

Indicates critical system conditions affecting multiple clients or applications.

Save this search query as

Select this option and enter a name to save the search query. The saved search query can then be selected from the drop down list in the Select from this search query field.

Event Selection (Job ID)

Use this dialog box to display only those events associated with a Job ID in your search query.

Select from this search query

Select this option and choose a previously defined search query.

Delete

Click this button to delete a search query.

Create a search query

Select this option to create a search query.

Job ID

  • All events associated with this Job ID

    Select this option and enter a Job ID to display only the events for that Job ID in the search query.

    Search queries based on a Job ID cannot be saved.

All Found Events

Use this dialog box to view the events that resulted from the search query you performed in the Events Selection dialog box.

Severity

Note that this error code will only appear if the job has not completed successfully.

Refresh

Backup Job Details (Events)

Use this dialog box to view the events that occurred during the selected backup operation.

Severity

Refresh

View RMAN Log

Click to display the RMAN log for the selected Oracle backup or restore job.

View Media

Click to view the information about the media used by the backup job.

Restore Job Details (Events)

Use this dialog box to view the events that occurred during the selected restore operation.

Severity
