Client Access License - License Types

Types of CAL License

Client Access licenses are divided into the following license types:

License Type License Consumption
Archived Mailboxes 1 license per archived mailbox
Content Indexed Objects (in Millions) 1 license per CommCell for n number of indexed objects
CPU Sockets on Hypervisor Hosts 1 license per CommCell for n number of sockets
Deduplication Active Store Capacity 1 license per CommCell for n Terabytes (TB) of deduplicated data
End Point User 1 license per Web Console user
End Point E-Discovery User 1 license per Web Console user
End Point Sharing User 1 license per Web Console user
Protected Virtual Machines 1 license per protected virtual machine
Virtual Machines 1 license per protected virtual machine

Review the following license considerations:

  • The following licenses are currently not enforced:
    • Deduplication Active Store Capacity
    • All VM licenses (CPU Sockets on Hypervisor Hosts, Protected Virtual Machines, and Virtual Machines)
    • All end point user licenses

If you exceed the license usage, CommCell operations will not be affected.

  • If you apply the CPU Sockets on Hypervisor Hosts or Protected Virtual Machines license on a CommCell environment monitored by capacity licenses, Virtual Server Agent jobs will not count towards capacity, resulting in decreased capacity usage.
