My Media Refresh jobs ran as scheduled but media did not get refreshed

When media is full and all criteria are satisfied, but the media is not refreshed even after a scheduled Media Refresh job was run, then perform the following steps to view the reason:

  1. From the CommCell Browser, expand Storage Resources | Libraries | <Tape Library> | Media By Location | Media In Library.
  2. In the right-pane, select and right-click the <media> that should have been refreshed and then click Pick for Refresh.
  3. In the Pick Media for Refresh Warning dialog box, click Yes.
  4. In the Media For Refresh Response dialog box, under the Reason column, if any of the below reasons appear then perform the following:

    Reason

    1. Media is not Full

      Solution

Click No, Ignore the operation for above media option to exit the pick media operation.

Once media is full, select the media for refresh and then run refresh job. See Select Media for Refresh for step-by-step instructions.

    2. Media is bad

      Solution

Click No, Ignore the operation for above media option to exit the pick media operation.

Perform, unpick operation. See Unselect Media for Refresh for step-by-step instructions.

    3. Dependent media not picked

      Solution

Select Yes, Select all dependent media option to unpick all media for refresh.

      Click Yes.

Run Media Refresh Job. See Run Media Refresh for step-by-step instructions.

What happens if one of the dependent Media goes bad?

Media that is damaged or has gone bad cannot be refreshed. Further, all its dependent media also will not be refreshed. When a Media Refresh job is run on a media (chosen or dependent) that is damaged, then such a media and its dependent media are skipped from being refreshed and following event will be seen in the event viewer:

<mediaxx>, <mediaxx> media are skipped from being refreshed since either they or their dependent media are bad

As a workaround, unpick bad media to prevent seeing this event in future.

What happens if one of my media got exported during a Media Refresh job?

During media refresh job, if one of the dependent media got exported, no Media Refresh job will run and then following message will be seen in the event viewer:

<mediaxx>, <mediaxx> media are skipped from being refreshed since either they or their dependent media are bad

As a workaround, import the media back and try the media refresh job again.

If one or all of the dependent media are no longer available, then kill the running media refresh job and unpick the media with all its dependent media for refresh.
