Perform a Restore

It is recommended that you perform a restore operation immediately after your first full backup to understand the process.

The following section comprehends the steps involved in restoring your entire database.

  1. From the CommCell Console, navigate to Policies | Storage Policies.
  2. Right-click the <storage policy> and click Properties.
  3. Click the Copy Precedence tab.

    By default, the snapshot copy is set to 1 and is used for the operation.

    You can also use a different copy for performing the operation. For the copy that you want to use, set the copy precedence as 1.

  4. Click OK.

  5. From the CommCell Console, navigate to <Client> | SQL Server.
  6. Right-click the instance that contains the data you want to restore, point to All Tasks and click Browse and Restore.

  7. Click View Content.

  8. Select the instance node in the left pane. The data and logs will be automatically selected in the right pane.

    Click Recover All Selected.

  9. Under the Database column, rename the database name.
  10. Under the Physical Path column, change the path of the database and log files.
  11. Click OK.

  12. You can monitor the progress of the restore job in the Job Controller.

  13. Once the restore job has completed, right-click the agent and click View | Restore History.

  14. Click OK.

  15. You can right-click the job and view the following details:
    • View Restore Items

      You can view them as Successful, Failed, Skipped or All.

    • View Job Details
    • View Events of the restore job
    • View Log files of the restore job
    • Send Logs
    • Resubmit Job

  16. Once the database is restored, verify that the restored database and log files are available in the restore destination provided during step 11.
