Managing Jobs Associated with a Copy
The following sections explain various options available to configure on a job associated with a copy.
View the Jobs Associated with the Copy
- From the CommCell Browser, expand Policies > Storage Policies > storage_policy.
- Right-click the appropriate storage policy copy, point to View, and then click Jobs.
- In the Job Filter for Storage Policy dialog box, clear Specify Time Range check box and click Advanced.
- In the Jobs in Storage Policy Advanced Filter Options dialog box, select appropriate option, and click OK.
For details information on the advanced options, click Jobs in Storage Policy Advanced Filter Options.
- Click OK.
A list of jobs associated with a storage policy copy is displayed in the Jobs for Storage Policy Copy pane of the CommCell Console.
The following table explains the various status of the Jobs associated with a synchronous copy.

Browse and Restore from a Job associated with a Copy
Applies To
- Primary Copy, Synchronous Copy, Selective Copy, Snapshot Copy, Spool Copy, Parallel Copy, Inline Copy, Deferred Copy, Spool Copy, and WORM Copy
To browse and restore data from a storage policy copy:
- From the CommCell Browser, expand Policies | Storage Policies | <Storage Policy>
- Right-click the appropriate storage policy copy, point to View and then click Jobs.
- In the Job Filter for Storage Policy dialog box, clear the Specify Time Range check box, click OK.
- Right-click the appropriate job, and then click Browse and Restore.
- In the Browse and Restore Options dialog box, click View Content.
- In the right pane of the Browse window, click the <Instance>, select all the entities and then click Restore All Selected.
- In the Restore Options for All Selected Items dialog box, specify the following settings, and then click OK.
- Clear the Overwrite Files and Restore to same folder check boxes.
- In the Specify the destination path box, enter the restore location.
This will ensure that the existing files are not overwritten.
Find Data from a Job associated with a Copy
Applies To

To find the data from a job associated with a storage policy copy:
- From the CommCell Browser, expand Policies | Storage Policies | <Storage Policy>
- Right-click the appropriate storage policy copy, point to View and then click Jobs.
- In the Job Filter for Storage Policy dialog box, clear the Specify Time Range check box, click OK.
- Right-click the appropriate job, and then click Find.
- In the Find Options dialog box, click Add to add various criteria (such as Modified date, file size, and so on), enter the criteria details and then click View Content.
View Failed Backup Job Files
Applies To

To view failed backup job files:
- From the CommCell Browser, expand Policies | Storage Policies | <Storage Policy>
- Right-click the appropriate storage policy copy, point to View and then click Jobs.
- In the Job Filter for Storage Policy dialog box, clear the Specify Time Range check box, click OK.
- Right-click the appropriate job, and then click View Failed Items.
The Unsuccessful Backup Files: Total results: <n> dialog box displays the list of files failed to copy during backup job.
- Click Close.
View Job Details
Applies To

To view job details associated with a storage policy copy:
- From the CommCell Browser, expand Policies | Storage Policies | <Storage Policy>
- Right-click the appropriate storage policy copy, point to View and then click Jobs.
- In the Job Filter for Storage Policy dialog box, clear the Specify Time Range check box, click OK.
- Right-click the appropriate job, and then click View Job Details.
- You can view the job details in the Job Details for Job: <ID> dialog box.
View Media Associated with a Specific Job
Applies To
- Primary Copy, Synchronous Copy, Selective Copy, Snapshot Copy, Spool Copy, Parallel Copy, Inline Copy, Deferred Copy, Spool Copy, and WORM Copy
To view media associated with a specific job:
- From the CommCell Browser, expand Policies | Storage Policies | <Storage_Policy>.
- Right-click the appropriate storage policy copy, point to View and then click Jobs.
- In the Job Filter for Storage Policy dialog box, clear the Specify Time Range check box and then click OK.
A list of jobs associated with the copy is displayed in the Job for Storage Policy pane.
- Right-click the job and click View Media.
To select multiple jobs, hold down the Ctrl key and right click on the jobs.
All the media associated with the job are displayed in the Media Used By Job ID dialog box.
- Click Close.
View List of Events Associated with a Job
Applies To

To view list of events associates with a specific job:
- From the CommCell Browser, expand Policies | Storage Policies | <Storage_Policy>.
- Right-click the appropriate storage policy copy, point to View and then click Jobs.
- In the Job Filter for Storage Policy dialog box, clear the Specify Time Range check box and then click OK.
A list of jobs associated with the copy is displayed in the Job for Storage Policy pane.
- Right-click the job and click View Events.
- The All Found Event Associated with Job ID: <ID> dialog box, displays the list of events associated with a job.
- Click Close.
Retain a Job in the Copy
All the available jobs in a storage policy copy will get pruned when the job meets the retention period configured on the storage policy copy.
If a job is manually retained, it will still be pruned as a result of the following operations:- Deletion of a backup set or instance/partition
- Deletion of a storage policy
- Deletion of a storage policy copy
- The Overwrite Media option is enabled on the library
- Deleting the contents of a media
Applies To

To manually retain a job in the copy for longer retention.
- From the CommCell Browser, expand Policies | Storage Policies | <Storage Policy>
- Right-click the appropriate storage policy copy, point to View and then click Jobs.
- In the Job Filter for Storage Policy dialog box, clear the Specify Time Range check box, click OK.
- Right-click the appropriate
available job, and then click Retain Job.
To select multiple jobs, hold down the Ctrl key and right click on the jobs.
- In the Manual Retention End Time for Job <ID> dialog box, select the appropriate options, and then click OK.
- Select Infinite to not age the job.
- Select Retain Until to retain the job on specific date and click down arrow to change the retention date.
- Select Do Not Retain Job to not retain the job.
- Specify the retention end time in the Manual Retention End Time for Job dialog box.
Once a job has been manually retained, it will not be pruned during a data aging operation. It will be pruned when the manual retention time requirement has been met. Note that jobs can be held infinitely.
The Retain By column in the right pane of the CommCell Browser displays the Retained by User status for the job.
Prevent Jobs from Being Copied
Before prevention a job from being copied, note the following:
- If you prevent a job from being copied, you can still restore the job from the primary copy as long as the data on the primary copy is not pruned.
- If you prevent copy of the last backup job from a cycle, the next backup job in the cycle is forced to be a full backup.
- For the Exchange Database and Image iDataAgents, if you disable an incremental or differential backup, all subsequent backups will be disabled up to the next full backup.

To prevent a job from being copied:
- From the CommCell Browser, expand Policies | Storage Policies | <Storage_Policy>.
- Right-click the appropriate storage policy copy, point to View and then Jobs.
- In the Job Filter for Storage Policy dialog box, clear the Specify Time Range check box, click OK.
For Primary Copy:
- Right-click the appropriate job, then click Prevent Copy.
To select multiple jobs, hold down the Ctrl key and right click on the jobs.
- In the Prevent Copy dialog box, select whether you want the dependent jobs to be computed, and then click OK.
- A list of all jobs that will be prevented from being copied are displayed in the Prevent Copy dialog box, click OK.
- A warning message appears that asks if you want to disable all the jobs, click Yes.
For Synchronous Copy:
- Right-click the appropriate job, then click Do Not Copy.
To select multiple jobs, hold down the Ctrl key and right click on the jobs.
- In the Do Not Copy dialog box, select whether you want the dependent jobs to be computed, and then click OK.
- A list of all jobs that will be prevented from being copied are displayed in the Do Not Copy dialog box, click OK.
- A warning message appears that asks if you want to disable all the jobs, click Yes.
- Right-click the appropriate job, then click Prevent Copy.
Re-Copy a Job associated with a Copy
You can re-copy fully or partially copied jobs associated with a storage policy copy. When the partially copied job is re-copied, all the data chunks of the selected job from the beginning of the job is copied.
Notes:
- Data can only be re-copied if it still exists in the source copy.
- To re-copy aged jobs or jobs that are not selected to be copied, use MarkJobsOnCopy qscript. For instructions, see MarkJobsOnCopy.
The list of jobs that are not selected to be copied display status as Not Selected in the Status column, when you perform view jobs associated with the copy operation, by selecting Jobs that will not be copied option in the Jobs in Storage Policy Advanced Filter Options dialog box.
Procedure
- From the CommCell Browser, expand Policies > Storage Policies > storage_policy.
- Right-click the appropriate storage policy copy, click View > Jobs.
- In the Job Filter for Storage Policy dialog box, clear the Specify Time Range check box, and then click OK.
A list of jobs associated with the copy are displayed in the right pane of the CommCell Browser.
- Right-click the appropriate available job, then click Re-Copy.
To select multiple jobs, hold down the Ctrl key and right click on the jobs.
A message appears that asks if you want to re-copy the selected job.
- Click Yes to continue.
Mark Job Bad on Encountering Invalid Data
During the Auxiliary Copy operation you can skip the invalid jobs and continue to copy the other valid jobs. That is, if any invalid job is encountered on the media during Auxiliary Copy operation, those jobs can be skipped by marking them bad and continue to copy the other jobs. During this process the invalid jobs are marked as bad on the source copy.

To mark job bad:
- From the CommCell Browser, expand Policies | Storage Policies | <Storage_Policy>.
- Right-click the appropriate storage policy copy, point to View and then Jobs.
- In the Job Filter for Storage Policy dialog box, clear the Specify Time Range check box, click OK.
A list of jobs associated with the copy are displayed in the right pane of the CommCell Browser.
- Right-click the appropriate job, then click Mark Job Bad.
A warning message appears that tells you that Auxiliary Copy operations will skip this job once it is marked as bad.
- Click Yes to continue.
Delete a Job from the Copy
If necessary, backup jobs can be manually deleted from a synchronous copy.If a job is deleted, by default the next job is forced to be a full backup, ensuring a consistent cycle that captures all available data. However, if an associated agent supports differential backups, then you can change the next job to be a differential backup. This reduces media consumption, as full backups contain large amounts of data.

To delete a job from a storage policy copy:
- From the CommCell Browser, expand Policies | Storage Policies | <Storage_Policy>.
- Right-click the appropriate storage policy copy, point to View and then click Jobs.
- In the Job Filter for Storage Policy dialog box, clear the Specify Time Range check box and then click OK.
A list of jobs associated with the copy is displayed in the Job for Storage Policy pane.
- Right-click the job that you want to delete and select Delete Job.
- In the Delete Job dialog box, select Yes (Recommended) to delete the dependent jobs, and then click OK.
The selected job and all dependent jobs are displayed in the Delete Job dialog box.
- Click OK.
Manually Select a Job to Copy
Applies To
- Synchronous Copy, Snapshot Copy, Spool Copy, Parallel Copy, Inline Copy, Deferred Copy, Spool Copy, and WORM Copy
- From the CommCell Browser, expand Policies | Storage Policies | <Storage Policy>
- Right-click the appropriate storage policy copy, point to View and then click Jobs.
- In the Job Filter for Storage Policy dialog box, clear the Specify Time Range check box, click Advanced.
- In the Jobs in Storage Policy Advanced Filter Options dialog box, select the Jobs that will not be copied check box.
- Click OK and then click OK to close the Job Filter for Storage Policy dialog box.
The list of jobs that will not be copied to the storage policy copy are displayed with the Status as
Not Selected in the Job for Storage Policy pane.
- Right-click the job that you want to copy to the storage policy copy, and then click Pick for Copy.
- In the Allow Copy dialog box, click Yes.
When the job is selected, the job is displayed with a status of
To be Copied. The job will now be copied to storage policy copy during the next Auxiliary Copy operation.
Repeat above steps to select other jobs.
Command Line Operations
View Retained Jobs Associated with the Specific Copy
This command allows you to view the list of all retained jobs for specific storage policy copy.Applies To

To manually view the list of retained jobs:
- Log on to the CommServe computer.
- From the command prompt, navigate to <Software_Installation_Path>\Base folder.
- Run the following command:
qoperation execscript -sn ListManuallyRetainedJobs -si StoragePolicyName -si CopyName

- StoragePolicyName - Name of the storage policy
- CopyName - Name of the storage policy copy

The following are valid values for the backup types:
- 0, to disable the selection of additional jobs
- 1, to include differential jobs
- 2, to include all non-full jobs
