Mark the Active Media Full

You can mark the active media for the storage policy copy as full, if you do not want the media for further backups. When the media is marked as full, subsequent backup jobs or Auxiliary Copy jobs that are associated to the storage policy copy will use a new media.

Applies To

  • Primary Copy, Synchronous Copy, Selective Copy, Snapshot Copy, Spool Copy, Parallel Copy, Inline Copy, Deferred Copy, Spool Copy, and WORM Copy

To mark the active media as full:

  1. From the CommCell Browser, expand Policies | Storage Policies | <Storage_Policy>.
  2. Right-click the appropriate storage policy copy, point to All Tasks, and then click Mark Active Media Full.
  3. In the Confirm Mark Active Volumes Full dialog box, click Yes.

Change Default Data Path

By default, data path is specified in the copy properties. You can change the default data path when one of the component such as library or MediaAgent and so on is not available.

Applies To

  • Synchronous Copy, Selective Copy, Snapshot Copy, Spool Copy, Parallel Copy, Inline Copy, Deferred Copy, Spool Copy, and WORM Copy

To change the default data path:

  1. From the CommCell Browser, expand Policies | Storage Policies | <Storage_Policy>.
  2. Right-click the appropriate storage policy copy, point to All Tasks, and then click Change Data Path.
  3. In Change Data Path dialog box, specify the following settings, and then click OK.
    • If you want to change a disk library data path.
      1. From the Library list, select the name of a library.
      2. From the MediaAgent list, select the name of a MediaAgent.
    • If you want to change a tape library data path.
      1. From the Library list, select the name of library.
      2. From the Master Pool list, select the name of a master pool.
      3. From the Drive Pool list, select the name of a drive pool.
      4. From the Scratch Pool list, select the name of the scratch pool.

Deleting a Storage Policy Copy

When a storage policy copy is deleted, the data on that copy is permanently deleted and becomes unavailable for restore operations. All corresponding media of that storage policy copy becomes available for reuse and moved to the corresponding scratch pool.

The primary copy cannot be deleted. In order to delete a primary copy, you need to promote a synchronous copy as a primary copy, see Setting Up the Storage Policy Copy to be the Primary Copy for instructions.

Before deleting a storage policy copy:

  • Ensure there are no data aging, restore or Auxiliary Copy jobs are running.
  • Ensure that all jobs associated to WORM copy are aged.

To delete a storage policy copy:
  1. From the CommCell Browser, expand Policies | Storage Policies | <Storage_Policy>.
  2. Right-click the appropriate storage policy copy, point to All Tasks, and then click Delete.

    A warning message, indicates that you cannot restore the data backed up to this storage policy copy.

  3. Click Yes to continue.

    A message appears, that asks if you want to delete the storage policy copy.

  4. Type erase and reuse media, and then click OK.

View the Media used by the Copy

You can view the list of media or mount paths that was used by a storage policy copy. This can be useful in various circumstances, including the following:

  • To know the mount paths location of your data stored on disk media.
  • To change the data paths for media from one library to another and need to know which media are associated with a given storage policy copy.
  • You are scheduling operations and want to make sure that all of the media necessary for the operations are inside the library.
  • To view the contents on the media.

To view the media used by a storage policy copy:
  1. From the CommCell Browser, expand Policies | Storage Policies | <Storage_Policy>.
  2. Right-click the appropriate storage policy copy, point to View, and then click Media.

    All media that is used by selected storage policy copy is displayed in the Media List dialog box.

  3. Click Close.

View the Media Associated with the Jobs that are Not Copied

You can view the media that has data that has not is not copied to all synchronous copies within a storage policy. This is useful to determine which media are required for operations, and how must data must be copied.

Applies To

  • Primary Copy, Synchronous Copy, Selective Copy, Snapshot Copy, Spool Copy, Parallel Copy, Inline Copy, Deferred Copy, Spool Copy, and WORM Copy

To view the media not copied:

  1. From the CommCell Browser, expand Policies | Storage Policies | <Storage_Policy>.
  2. Right-click the appropriate storage policy copy, point to View, and then click Media Not Copied.

    All media that has jobs that are not copied to synchronous copy is displayed in the Media List dialog box.

  3. Click Close.

View the Media contains Aged Data

You can view media that contains aged data that has been aged, but is still available to be restored or recovered. The list of aged media can be viewed only on a storage policy copy that has tape library configured.

To view the media that contains the aged data.

  1. From the CommCell Browser, expand Policies | Storage Policies | <Storage_Policy>.
  2. Right-click the appropriate storage policy copy, point to View, and then click Aged Media.

    All media that has jobs that are aged but not completed deleted is displayed in the Media List dialog box.

  3. Click Close.

View the Jobs Scheduled for the Copy

Applies To

  • Primary Copy, Synchronous Copy, Selective Copy, Snapshot Copy, Spool Copy, Parallel Copy, Inline Copy, Deferred Copy, Spool Copy, and WORM Copy

You can view the schedules of jobs associated with the storage policy copy as follows:

  1. From the CommCell Browser, expand Policies | Storage Policies | <Storage_Policy>.
  2. Right-click the appropriate storage policy copy, point to View, and then click Schedules.

    A list of jobs scheduled associated with the storage policy copy is displayed in the Schedules pane of the CommCell Console.
