Two-Factor Authentication (End-User) - Acquiring a PIN

Once the Administrator notifies you that Two-Factor Authentication is enabled on the CommCell, a password and a PIN are required to access the CommCell through the following interfaces:

  • CommCell Console
  • Web Console
  • Command Line
  • Mobile Applications such as CommVault Edge and CommVault Monitor

You can acquire a PIN to access the CommCell through one of the following:

  • Email
  • Mobile Apps
  • Desktop Application

Acquiring a PIN Using Email

To obtain the PIN by email, log on to the CommCell and provide your user name and password. This triggers the CommCell to send you an email with the PIN after your login fails.

Before You Begin

Two-Factor Authentication is enabled by the administrator.

Procedure

  1. Launch the CommCell Console.
  2. From the Connect to CommCell window, enter your login credentials for the CommCell, and then click OK.

Your login fails because Two-Factor Authentication is enabled.

  3. Click OK to close the Login Error message.
  4. Immediately after the message is displayed, an email is sent to you with the PIN required to log on to the CommCell.

  5. Open the email and copy the One Time Pin.

This is a one time PIN valid for the next 30 minutes.

Acquiring a PIN Using a PIN Generating Tool

Use a mobile app or the desktop application to generate a PIN if you do not want to receive a PIN through email.

Before You Begin

A mobile app or the desktop application must be set up.

For information on mobile apps, see PIN Generating Mobile Apps.

For instructions on setting up the desktop application, see CommVault Token Desktop.

Steps for the Mobile Application

  1. Open the mobile application.

All of the accounts registered with the application are listed along with the PIN for each.

  2. Use the PIN associated with the account you are using to log on.

This is a one time PIN valid for the next 30 seconds.

Steps for the Desktop Application

  1. Open the CommVault Token application by clicking on the authenticator.jar file.

The default account appears on the main page of the application along with the PIN for that account.

This is a one time PIN valid for the next 30 seconds.

  2. If you need a PIN for another account, click Switch Account, select the account, and then click Choose Default.

The selected account appears on the main page of the application along with the PIN for that account.

This is a one time PIN valid for the next 30 seconds.
