Alternate Installation Methods - Silent Install

Table of Contents

Windows

You can manually install the updates from the command line in a non-interactive mode.

To silently install the service pack on a Windows client, navigate to the <Update/Update pack> directory in the client computer, and execute the following command:

InstallUpdates.exe –silent -rebootreq -vm <instance name> [-nostartsvc|-startsvc] - help

Once all updates are installed, the CommServe database is updated with the update information.

Options

-silent Installs the updates silently.
-rebootreq Reboots the machine if the update installation requires a reboot (e.g., for driver updates).
-vm Allows you to specify the name of the instance on which the updates should be installed.
-nostartsvc Prevents services from starting after a silent installation. This option can be useful when running additional silent installations on a non-cluster setup.
-startsvc Starts the services after a silent installation.
-delayedreboot Prevents reboots in the current execution.
-binaryOnly Installs binary updates only.
-dbOnly Installs database update only.
-doNotUpdateDB When this option is used, the update information will not be sent to the CommServe. This option can be used when there are connectivity issues between the client and the CommServe. The connectivity issues could be related to the firewall or the services not running on the CommServe.
-tolerateMissingReg Use this option when the installation is incomplete due to missing registry keys, and still you want the updates to be installed.
-ignorePendingFileOp Ignores the current file rename operations and proceed with the installation.
-rmvInterSectingDiag Uninstalls hotfixes that were applied to your CommCell environment. You can safely uninstall hotfixes when you apply the next service pack updates.

For example, if you are installing Service Pack 9, and your CommCell has Service Pack 8 updates and hotfixes, then the hotfixes are uninstalled during the SP9 installation.

-help Displays help.

Diagnostics

Possible exit status values are:

0 - Success

2 - Success (All the updates are already installed)

1 (or any other number other than 0 and 2) - Error

UNIX

You can manually install the updates from the command line in a non-interactive mode.

To silently install the service pack on a UNIX client, navigate to the <Update/Update pack> directory in the client computer, and execute the following command:

InstallUpdates -silent -vm <instance name>

Options

-silent Installs the updates silently.
-vm Allows you to specify the name of the instance on which the updates should be installed. This is a mandatory parameter for installing the updates successfully. If –vm is not specified and only one control set exists, the installer completes successfully on the existing node. If multiple nodes are found, the installer lists all the nodes and exits with an error.

Diagnostics

Possible exit status values are:

0 - Success

1 - Command line interface usage failures due to the use of an unsupported option or missing argument.

2 - Any other failure
