CommServe® Hardware Refresh - Preparing the New Hardware

  1. Get the new hardware.

Ensure the hardware meets the specifications mentioned in Hardware Specifications. The new hardware must not be an existing client in your CommCell® environment.

  2. Determine the following:
    • Do you want to use the same computer name and IP settings?
    • Do you want to use a different computer name and IP settings?

Send an email to prodreg@commvault.com to request a new CommServe license configured with the new IP address. On the email request, make sure to list the old and new IP addresses. After the license is updated with the new IP, move the license file to a location accessible by the new CommServe computer.

  3. Install the Operating System on the new computer.

For supported operating systems, see System Requirements - CommServe.

If you plan to use the same network details, do not connect the new computer to the network. The computer can be connected later in the process, after shutting down the old CommServe computer.

  4. Configure the Internet Information Services (IIS) on the new computer.

IIS is required for the following:

    • CommCell Console
    • Web Console
  5. Ensure that you have the following Version 10 media:
    1. Latest installation package created using the Download Manager and accessible from the new CommServe computer. See Download Manager - Getting Started for instructions on obtaining the Download Manager application and creating the installation package.
    2. Latest SnapProtect Service Pack must be accessible from both the old and new CommServe computer.
