SnapProtect - Configuration - DB2 MultiNode

The DB2 MultiNode pseudo-client and its corresponding instance serve as a logical grouping of DB2 DPF or DB2 pureScale database partitions that are housed on various clients. Once the DB2 iDataAgent is installed, you must create and configure the DB2 MultiNode pseudo-client.

Creating a DB2 MultiNode Pseudo Client

When you create a DB2 MultiNode pseudo-client, a DB2 MultiNode partition instance is also created at the same time. Each pseudo-client can include only this one partition instance. To create additional partition instances, you must create additional pseudo-clients.

Use the following steps to configure a DB2 MultiNode pseudo-client.

  1. From the CommCell Console, right-click the Client Computers, point to New Client, Application, and then click DB2MultiNode.
  2. In the Client Name box, type any name for the MultiNode client name. In the Instance Name box, type the name of the DB2 MultiNode instance.
  3. Click Change. In the DB2 User Account box, type the DB2 user account name. In the Password box, type the password. In the Confirm password box, retype the password.
  4. Click the Details tab. select the Client. In the Home box, type the path to the home directory of DB2 DPF or DB2 pureScale primary partition for the associating client from drop down list. Alternatively, click Browse to select the path to Home directory.

    Click Add / Refresh. DB2 Partition Client box will display all the DB2MultiNode partitions.

  5. Click the Storage Device tab. In the Default Storage Policy box, select a storage policy name for data backups.

    If you do not have a Storage Policy created, follow the steps given in Create a Storage Policy to create a Storage Policy.

  6. Click the Command Line Backup tab. In the Storage Policy for Command Line Backup box, select a storage policy name.

    If you do not have a Storage Policy created, follow the steps given in Create a Storage Policy to create a Storage Policy.

  7. Click the Logs Backup tab. In the Storage Policy for All Log Files box, select a storage policy name.
  8. Click OK. The DB2 MultiNode Pseudo client is now created.
  9. From the CommCell Browser:

    Navigate to Client Computers | <DB2 MultiNode Client>.

    Right-click the client and select Properties.

  10. From the CommCell Browser, navigate to Client Computers | <DB2 MultiNode Client>
  11. Right-click the <Instance>, point to All Tasks, and then click Create New Backup Set.

  12. Select the desired database from the available databases listed under the Available DB Names, and then click the arrow " >" button to move the selected database into Selection box.
  13. In the Storage Policy for all Log Files box, select the storage policy name.
  14. Click OK.

  15. From the CommCell Browser, navigate to Client Computers | <DB2 MultiNode Client> | <Instance> | <BackupSet>.
  16. Right-click the <Subclient>, and then click Properties.

  17. Click the SnapProtect Operations tab. Select SnapProtect. Select a Snap Engine from the available list.

  18. From the Use Proxy list, select the MediaAgent where SnapProtect and backup copy operations will be performed.

    This is require in DB2 pureScale configurations.

    When performing an SnapProtect backup using proxy, ensure that the operating system of the proxy server is either the same or higher version than the client computer.
    For clustered environments, ensure that the proxy you want to select is not part of a cluster setup.

  19. Click the Storage Device tab.
  20. In the Data Storage Policy list, select a Storage Policy name.
  21. Click OK.

  22. Create a Storage Policy:
  1. Click Create Storage Policy.
  2. Follow the prompts displayed in the Storage Policy Wizard. The required options are mentioned below:
    1. Select the Storage Policy type as Data Protection and Archiving and click Next.
    2. Enter the name in the Storage Policy Name box and click Next.
    3. From the Library list, click the name of a disk library to which the primary copy should be associated and then click Next.

      Ensure that you select a library attached to a MediaAgent operating in the current release.

    4. From the MediaAgent list, click the name of a MediaAgent that will be used to create the primary copy and then click Next.
    5. For the device streams and the retention criteria information, click Next to accept default values.
    6. Select Yes to enable deduplication for the primary copy.
    7. From the MediaAgent list, click the name of the MediaAgent that will be used to host the Deduplication database (DDB).

      In the Location box, type the name of the folder in which the DDB must be located or click the Browse to select the folder, and then click Next.

    8. Review the details and click Finish to create the Storage Policy.

Skip this section if you already created a snapshot copy, and continue to the next page.

Create a Snapshot Copy

Create a snapshot copy for the Storage Policy. The following section provides step-by-step instructions for creating a Snapshot Copy.

  1. From the CommCell Console, navigate to Storage Policies | <storage policy>

    Right-click the <storage policy>, select All Tasks and click Create New Snapshot Copy.

  2. Enter the copy name in the Copy Name field.

    Select the Library, MediaAgent, master Drive Pool and Scratch Pool from the lists (not applicable for disk libraries).

    Click OK.

Configure Backup Copy

Follow the steps given below to configure Backup Copy for moving snapshots to media.

  1. From the CommCell Console, navigate to Storage Policies | <storage policy>

    Right-click the <storage policy> and click Properties.

  2. Click the Snapshot tab

    Select Enable Backup Copy option to enable movement of snapshots to media.

    Click OK.
