Configuration - Informix iDataAgent

Relinking Instances

For UNIX configurations, you must relink the instance before you perform backups. If you did not relink the instance when you installed the Informix Agent, you must run the Ifx_install script and then relink the instance. The Ifx_install script creates a symbolic link in the $INFORMIXDIR/lib directory that points to the SnapProtect XBSA shared library. ON-Bar loads the shared library from the SnapProtect Base path for backup and restore operations.

  1. On the command line, go to the SnapProtect/iDataAgent directory and run the Ifx_install script .
  2. You must provide the following Informix instance credentials:
    • The user name
    • The group name
    • The ONCONFIG

Validating the Relinking of the Informix Instance

Use this procedure to validate the relinking of the Informix instance.

  • On the command line, go to the $INFORMIXDIR/lib directory and type the following command to verify that the symbolic link was created.

    ls -l $INFORMIXDIR/lib | grep ibsad*

If the relinking was successful, the result points to the XBSA shared library, "ibsad001".

Configuring the ONCONFIG File

Before you perform backup and restore operations, you must modify the following parameters in the ONCONFIG file.

Use this parameter to define the number of parallel streams used in backup and restore operations. By default, this is set to 0.

Use the TAPEDEV parameter to define the device that is used for dbspace backups. Use the LTAPEDEV parameter to define the tape device log file backups.

Change the value of each parameter to a non-existing directory that has full access to perform log backups for an Informix user.

    UNIX Configuration Example

    TAPEDEV /dev/tmp0
    LTAPEDEV /dev/tmp1

    Windows Configuration Example

    LTAPEDEV C:\Program Files\IBM\Informix\tape1

Use this parameter to define the location of the shared library for ON-Bar and the CommVault storage manager.

You must specify this parameter in a Windows configuration. This parameter is updated when you create an instance in the CommCell Console.

In a UNIX configuration, ON-Bar looks for the symbolic link in the $INFORMIX/lib path when you do not specify this parameter.

Note: If you use INFORMIX version 12.10 and you do not specify the BAR_BSALIB_PATH parameter, the backups are not available for the SnapProtect software to restore.
