Adding Availability Group to an Existing MSSQL Availability Group Client

You can add availability group to an existing MSSQL AG client.

  1. From the CommCell Browser, navigate to Client Computers | MSSQL AG Client.
  2. Right-click SQL Server, point to All Tasks, and then click New SQL Server.
  3. In the Create MSSQL AG Client dialog box,
    • In the SQL Client box, select a client from the list displaying SQL 2012 and SQL 2014 clients.

Ensure that the selected SQL server is the primary replica of the availability group you are planning to protect.

    • In the SQL Instances box, select an instance from the list of available SQL instances.

This box will auto-populate if the selected SQL client has only one instance.

    • In the Availability Group box, select an availability group from the list.

This box will auto-populate if the selected SQL client has only one availability group.

    • In the Proxy Client box, select a client from the list of available SQL clients.

The proxy client acts as a coordinator. It decides which replica to be used during backup and restore.

    • Click OK.

The new availability group is added to the selected MSSQL AG client in the CommCell Console.

  • Same availability group cannot be added to more than one MSSQL AG client.
  • In the CommCell Console, the availability group will be displayed by its AG instance name. However, if the availability group was created on the SQL Server using a listener, the naming convention will be Listener name\AG name.
