Creating MSSQL Availability Group Client

Once the SQL iDataAgent is installed on all the physical nodes of AlwaysOn cluster, create a new MSSQL Availability Group (AG) client.

  1. From the CommCell Browser, right-click the Client Computers, point to New Client | Application, and then click MSSQL AG.
  2. In the Create MSSQL AG Client dialog box,
    • In the New Client box, type a name for the MSSQL AG client.

Name of the MSSQL AG client can be random with no dependency on the actual availability groups.

    • In the SQL Client box, select a client from the list displaying SQL 2012 and SQL 2014 clients.

Ensure that the selected SQL server is the primary replica of the availability group you are planning to protect.

    • In the SQL Instances box, select an instance from the list of available SQL instances.

This box will auto-populate if the selected SQL client has only one instance.

    • In the Availability Group box, select an availability group from the list.

This box will auto-populate if the selected SQL client has only one availability group.

    • In the Proxy Client box, select a client from the list of available SQL clients.

The proxy client acts as a coordinator. It decides which replica to be used during backup and restore.

    • Click OK.

The new MSSQL AG client is created in the CommCell Console. It also displays the name of the availability group selected above.
