Job Results Directory Disk Space Requirement Calculation for UNIX File Systems

The disk space required for the JobResults directory depends on the number of files to be backed up or restored and also the average size of a file.

Disk Space Calculation Formula

Backup Jobs

SubClient_Dir_Size = 6 x System_Files_Count x System_Average_Filename_Size

Restore Jobs

Restore_Job_Size = 1.5 x Restore_Files_Count x Average_Filename_Size

Snap Jobs

SnapCopy_Job_Size = 7 x SubClient_Files_Count x SubClient_Average_Filename_Size

Disk Space Required for the JobResults Directory

JobResults_directory_disk_space = SubClient_Dir_Size + (Restore_Job_Size x number_of_restore_results_to_be_kept_for_a_longer_time) + (SnapCopy_Job_Size x number_of_Snap_Copy_jobs_to_be_run_in_parallel)

In addition, the disk space requirements of any other components that are used, such as optimized scan cache, must be added to the final number.

Environment 1

Number of files = 25 million

Average filename size = 15 characters

Space Required for Backup Job

6 x 25,000,000 x 14 = 2.5 GB

Space Required for Restore Job

1.5 x 25,000,000 x 15 = 560 MB

Disk Space Required for the JobResults Directory

Number of restore results to be kept for a longer time = 1

JobResults_directory_disk_space = 2.5 + (560 x 1) = 3.5 GB (approximately)

Environment 2

Number of files = 25 million

Average filename size = 15 characters

Space Required for Backup Job

6 x 25,000,000 x 14 = 2.5 GB

Space Required for Restore Job

1.5 x 25,000,000 x 15 = 560 MB

Space Required for Snap Job

7 x 25,000,000 x 15 = 2.7 GB (approximately)

Disk Space Required for the JobResults Directory

If the number of restore results to be kept for a longer time = 1

If the number of snap copy jobs to be run in parallel = 1

JobResults_directory_disk_space = 2.5 + (560 x 1) + (2.7 x 1) = 6.2 GB (approximately)
