Subclient Properties (Backup Options)

Use Changed Block Tracking

This option is selected by default, enabling the use of Changed Block Tracking (CBT) for all backups of virtual machines (VMs) under the subclient. CBT optimizes backups by reading only the allocated and modified portions of virtual machine disks.

Clear this option to disable CBT for backups of virtual machines under the subclient.

Quiesce Guest File System and Applications

This check box is selected by default. When you back up the subclient, the operating system and applications on each virtual machine in the subclient are quiesced during the backup of the VM. The backup process may slow down because of the quiescing. VMware Tools are required to quiesce the operating system and applications.

If you do not want to quiesce the operating systems and applications during virtual machine backups, clear the check box.

Application aware backup for item based recovery (Only available for SnapProtect)

Select this check box to enable snap mining for the subclient. When you enable snap mining for a subclient, you can restore Exchange data, such as mail messages from a virtual machine snapshots.

Truncate Database logs

Select this check box to prune Microsoft Exchange or SQL Server database logs that are no longer required and prevent logs from growing to an unmanageable size.

The Quiesce Guest File System and Applications and Application aware backup for item based recovery options must also be selected when you select this option.

Impersonate

Select this option to identify a user account and provide credentials for a user who is authorized to perform operations on the virtual machines being backed up. For example, you might need to impersonate a database user with sysadmin privileges.

User Account

This field displays a user account that has been entered for user impersonation. To enter a different account, click Change, then provide the user credentials.

Perform Datastore freespace check

Select this option to set a threshhold for free space on a datastore. If the datastore for a virtual machine under the subclient does not have enough free space for a snapshot of the VM, the backup of that VM is skipped. Checking for freespace before running the backup avoids errors during the backup job.

Datastore freespace required

Enter or select a percentage value for the amount of free space that is required on the hosting datastores for snapshots of virtual machines under the subclient.
