Basic Restore - SnapProtect for VMware

Perform a restore operation immediately after your first full backup to understand the process.

The following steps restore a single virtual machine to a different ESX Server.

  1. From the CommCell Browser, go to Client Computer | virtualization_client | Virtual Server | VMware.
  2. Right-click the backup set that contains the data to restore; then click All Tasks | Browse and Restore.
  3. Click the Advanced Options tab.
  4. Select the MediaAgent that was used during storage policy creation from the Use MediaAgent drop-down list.

    This MediaAgent should be the one you installed with the Virtual Server Agent.

  5. Click View Content.
  6. Expand the backup set and select the required virtual machine.

    Its entire contents are displayed in the right pane.

  7. Click Recover All Selected.
  8. Clear the Restore in place check box.

    Avoid in-place restores unless you intend to replace an existing virtual machine.

  9. Click in the ESX Server column, click to select the destination ESX server and datastore, and click OK on the selection dialog.
  10. Click in the Change VM display name to column and enter a new name for the virtual machine.
  11. Click OK on the Restore Options for All Selected Items dialog .
  12. You can monitor the progress of the restore job in the Job Controller tab of the CommCell Console.
    1. Once the restore job has completed, right-click the backup set and click View | Restore History.
    2. Click OK.
    3. You can view the following details about the job by right-clicking the job:
      • View Restore Items

        You can view them as Successful, Failed, Skipped or All.

      • View Job Details
      • View Events of the restore job.
      • View Log files of the restore job.
  13. Once the virtual machine is restored, it is automatically mounted to the vCenter and ESX server you selected.
