Disaster Recovery Backup Options

Use this dialog box to select the type of Disaster Recovery Backup operation that you want to use.

Full

Establishes the backup type as a full backup. This form of backup secures the entire CommServe database and the Windows registry entries created by the software.

Differential

Establishes the backup type as a differential backup. This form of backup secures those portions of the CommServe database that have changed since the last differential backup. It also backs up the Windows registry entries.

Shrink DB

Select this option to minimize the space usage on the database and database log file. This option does not affect the backup size of the database.

Shrinking a database may cause index defragmentation that causes performance degradation to the database for all kinds of queries. Therefore, do not select this option regularly as part of a scheduled Disaster Recovery backup.

Shrinking the database must be done only for exceptional cases. For example, during full database maintenance when there is no sufficient space on the CommServe host. For more information on database maintenance, see DBMaintenance Utility.

Note: Select this option only when no jobs are running in the CommCell Console. Enabling this option during the active jobs may affect other operations.

Enable database(s) backup compression

Select this option to compress the database backup file (*.dmp). Selecting this option will only compress the backup file; it will not compress the database.

Compression saves disk space and transmission bandwidth for export and backup locations.

Select additional databases to backup

Select the additional database(s) to be included in the Disaster Recovery backup operations. The databases selected will be protected in addition to the CommServe database.

If the additional databases are not included in the Disaster Recovery backup, then during a CommServe failure, these databases are not available for recovery. We recommend that you do not exclude any database from the backup job.

WFEngine

Specifies whether the workflow engine database is included in the Disaster Recovery backup. By default, the database is included in the Disaster Recovery backup.

Clear the checkbox to exclude the workflow engine database from the Disaster Recovery backup.

CVCloud

Specifies whether the Metrics Reporting Server database is included in the Disaster Recovery backup. If Metrics Reporting Server is installed on the CommServe host, by default, the database is included in the Disaster Recovery backup.

Clear the checkbox to exclude the database from the Disaster Recovery backup.
