Enabling Frequent (Timely) Replication of Backup Jobs Completed during an Auxiliary Copy Operation

You can enable the replication of backup jobs completed during an auxiliary copy operation. Refer Why is Auxiliary Copy job getting queued? for details. However, the new backup jobs will be copied at the end of an auxiliary copy operation only after the successful replication of the jobs already present in the current iteration.

For better performance and efficiency, you can enable the feature to check for any backup jobs completed during an auxiliary copy operation at defined time interval, and include them in the replication. The backup jobs will be picked up for replication based on the availability of streams needed for copying. The time interval to check for new jobs is preconfigured as 45 minutes which can be modified.

For this feature to work, ensure that the Use Scalable Resource Allocation option is selected in the Auxiliary Copy Job Options window displayed during auxiliary copy execution.

Procedure

Follow the instructions given below to enable the feature to check for any backup jobs completed during an auxiliary copy operation:

  1. On the CommServe computer, add the additional setting QueueConflictingAuxCopyJobs with the value set to 0. For instructions to add an additional setting, see Add or Modify an Additional Setting.
  2. Set the value of the Pick new data for Scalable Resource Auxiliary Copy job parameter on the Auxiliary Copy tab of the Media Management Configuration dialog box to 1. For more information, see Media Management Configuration: Auxiliary Copy.
  3. The default time interval to check for any backup jobs completed during an auxiliary copy operation is 45 minutes. To set any other time interval, change the value of the Minimum interval in minutes for picking new data for Scalable Resource Auxiliary Copy job parameter on the Auxiliary Copy tab of the Media Management Configuration dialog box. For more information, see Media Management Configuration: Auxiliary Copy.
