CommCell Migration for Clients with Virtual Server Agent

During CommCell Migration, you can migrate the virtualization client, Virtual Server Agent (VSA) proxy clients, or both. After you migrate VSA proxies, you must reset the proxy references for the instance and any subclients that refer to the proxies.

Migrating both VSA Proxy Client and Virtualization (Pseudo) Client

To migrate both VSA proxy client and Virtualization client, perform the following steps:

  1. During export, select both VSA proxy client and Virtualization client from the source CommServe.
  2. Import the VSA proxy client and Virtualization client to the destination CommServe.
  3. On the destination CommServe, perform the following:
    1. Perform name change for the VSA proxy client. For instructions, see Register Migrated Clients.
    2. Reconfigure the Virtualization client.
    3. Assign a new storage policy to the migrated subclients.
    4. Run backup on the migrated VSA proxy client.

For more information on how to assign storage policy to a subclient and run backups, see the Virtualization documentation.

Migrating Virtualization Client

To migrate only Virtualization client:

  1. During export, select only the Virtualization client from the source CommServe.
  2. Import the Virtualization client on the destination CommServe.
  3. Install a new VSA client or use an existing VSA proxy client on destination CommServe to run backup on the migrated VSA proxy client.

Migrating the VSA Proxy Client

To migrate only VSA proxy client:

  1. During export, select only the VSA proxy client from the source CommServe.
  2. Import the VSA proxy client in the destination CommServe.
  3. Perform name change to the VSA proxy client. For instructions, see Register Migrated Clients.
  4. Configure new Virtualization  client on the destination CommServe and run backups to the migrated VSA proxy client.

For more information on how to run backups, see the Virtualization documentation.

Resetting VSA Proxies

After migrating VSA proxies, modify the instance for the virtualization client. Remove any proxies listed on the Proxies tab, and then add the migrated VSA proxies to be used with the instance.

If any subclients identify proxies, modify the subclients. Remove any proxies listed on the Advanced Options tab, and then add the migrated VSA proxies to be used with the subclient.

If you do not remove and re-add migrated VSA proxies, the following error appears when you perform a backup:

Failed to get the configured member server list for Virtual Server. Please verify if the nodes of the Virtualization client have licenses.
