Import Metadata on the Destination CommCell

The metadata associated with the client in a source CommCell can now be temporarily imported on to the destination CommCell. The import will use the import entries that you have defined for the destination CommCell.

Before You Begin

Procedure

  1. Log on to destination CommCell.
  2. From the CommCell Browser, right-click the destination_CommServe, click All Tasks > CommCell Migration > Import From Folder.
  3. On the Select Import Folder page, select one of the following and then click Next.
    • If you have copied the exported source metadata on the local drive of destination CommServe, then select Use local and specify the local path in the Import Folder box.
    • If you have exported metadata on network path, select Use Network and specify network path in the Import Folder box.

Click User Name Password and provide the user credentials to access the network path and then click OK.

  4. Under Select CommCell, select the source CommServe to import and click Next.
  5. On the Specify MediaAgents that have read access to the mount paths and edit access paths if needed page, specify the following and click Next.
    1. Select MediaAgent from destination CommCell to access the migrating library for restore operation.

By default, Destination MediaAgent is set to Not Accessible. Use Not Accessible option if:

      • You do not want to perform any restore operations on migrated clients.
      • You are migrating MediaAgents permanently which have access to the migrating library.
    2. From the Select MediaAgent for Index Restore list, select the MediaAgent from the destination CommCell.

The MediaAgent stores the index of the migrated library in the index cache folder. The index is useful to perform restore operation.

  6. Enter a new name for the client if required. If nothing is specified the old name will be used and then click Next.

Note: If you want to change the client name during migration, we recommend you specify both the client host name and the client name.

  7. Review the selected import options and click Next.
  8. Accept the default options for first import operation and then click Next.
  9. By default, Immediate is selected to start the import process immediately.

Alternatively, you can schedule the import job for a later time.

  10. Click Finish to complete the import operation. You can track the progress of the job from the Job Controller window of the CommCell console.

Result

Entities selected for export on the source CommCell will be imported on the destination CommCell.

Notes:

  • After migration, a new client group with SourceCommserveName_clients name is created in the destination CommCell for the imported clients.
  • The migrated clients will appear as deconfigured clients and will be available for cross machine restore on to local clients.

To perform backup operations on the migrated clients, you must permanently migrate them to the destination CommCell by applying licenses on these clients.
