Migration of Third-Party Data to ObjectStore  - Overview

SnapProtect provides a data migration solution that you can use to migrate data protected by a third-party software to the ObjectStore (data storage repository). After you migrate the data, users can access and manage the files from the Web Console and can take advantage of other features in Web Console.

Key Features

  • Fast and efficient mechanism to migrate large number of files to theSnapProtect ObjectStore.
  • Protect the data by scheduling backups to the  ObjectStore.
  • Configure a retention period for the data in ObjectStore. When the retention period is reached, delete the files from the ObjectStore.
  • Search the files based on custom properties from the Web Console.

How It Works

To migrate third-party data, you create an ObjectStore client and define a staging location on a Windows proxy client from the CommCell Console. The user copies the files to a folder in the staging location and also generates a metadata file (.mdata file) in a specified format for the folder. Note: The staging location must be a local path on the Windows proxy client.

Based on the backup schedules defined for the ObjectStore client, the files are moved to the ObjectStore. After the migration, the files are removed from the staging location and the ObjectStore user can access and manage the files from the Web Console.

Example: You can use the data migration solution to migrate NetBackup and Avamar data to the SnapProtect ObjectStore.
