Recreating initrd Image

By default qla2xxx driver is part of the initrd that is created when Linux RedHat is installed on the SAN data server. To use the Qlogic HBA as an initiator on the SAN data server which is attached to the SAN attached disk array, you must recreate a new initrd image.

Recreation of the initrd image is required as the new initrd image does not contain the qla2xxx driver but contains qla2xxx_scst driver which has the capability to support Qlogic target mode driver qla2x00tgt.

Before You Begin

Install the MediaAgent and SAN Storage Server on the data server. Ensure that you select the MediaAgent and SAN Storage Server when selecting the packages during install.

For more information, see MediaAgent Installation.

  1. Navigate to the /etc/modprobe.d and edit the blacklist.conf file and add the qla2xxx driver as a black listed driver.
  2. Recreate the initrd image.
  3. Navigate to /etc/ and edit the grub.conf file and edit the .conf file to point to the new initrd image.
