Enable Data Loss Prevention

Data Loss Prevention (DLP) is a laptop security solution you can use to secure files on your device and prevent unauthorized access to your important data. If your laptop is ever lost or stolen, you can use DLP to securing access to data on your laptop or remotely erase data on your laptop from the Web Console.

To start using DLP, your administrator must first enable DLP on your device from the CommCell Console. Afterwards you must complete the following tasks:

  1. Follow the procedure to enable the Plug-In for your laptop's operating system:
Operating System Procedure to Enable Plug-In
    1. Launch the Process Manager.
    2. Click the Plugin tab, then select Enable Windows Explorer Plugin.
    3. Click Restart Explorer to restart Windows Explorer immediately, or click Restart Later. If you click Restart Later, you will not see anything that depends on the Plug-In until you restart Windows Explorer.
Macintosh Note: You must have write access to the SnapProtect registry located at /etc/CommVaultRegistry.
    1. Log on to your user account.
    2. Navigate to the /Applications directory and launch Process Manager.
    3. Click the Plugin tab, and then click Enable.
    4. If you are not an administrative user, type the user name and password for the administrator account in the Name and Password boxes, and then click OK.
  2. Optional: Create a passkey to authorize access to locked files on your laptop. See Creating a Data Loss Prevention Passkey.
  3. Start securing files on your laptop using DLP. See Secure Files with Data Loss Prevention.
