Indexing: Retention Parameters
You can control how long an index is normally kept in the Index Directory through the Retain index for n days setting. By default, this parameter is set to 15 days. When an index is older than this setting, the scheduled cleanup job deletes it within 24 hours. Deleting indexes and log files is called cleanup.
Note: An index may be deleted sooner than the Retain index for n days setting, if the Index Directory is low on space. That form of cleanup (event-driven cleanup) is controlled by additional retention settings, which act based on the amount of space allocated to the Index Directory, and the amount of that allocated space that remains available, either as a percentage or an actual quantity (see Index Directory Cleanup).
Use these steps to set index retention parameters.
To set retention parameters for index data:
- From the CommCell Browser, expand Storage Resources > MediaAgents.
- Right-click the MediaAgent > Properties.
- Click the Catalog tab.
- Change the values of the retention parameters as required (see Index Retention), then click OK.
