About Changing the Indexing MediaAgent

There are two methods that you can use to change the indexing MediaAgent that is associated to a CommCell entity:

Method 1: The Change Index Server Workflow

The Change Index Server workflow allows administrators to change the MediaAgent used for indexing on one or more clients or client groups to a different MediaAgent. You can also use the Change Index Server workflow to move all of the indexing associations from one MediaAgent to a different MediaAgent. This method is useful for bulk changes to indexing MediaAgent associations.

For instructions on how to use the Move Index Server workflow, see Change the Indexing MediaAgent for Clients, Client Groups, and MediaAgents.

Method 2: The Index Server Backup Set Property

In the backup set properties dialog box, you can change the MediaAgent used for indexing operations. This method is useful for individual changes to indexing MediaAgent associations.

For instructions on how to use the index server backup set property, see Change the Indexing MediaAgent for a Backup Set.

Before You Begin

To use the Change Index Server workflow, you must have the Workflow Engine installed in your CommCell environment. For more information about workflows, see Workflow: Overview.
