Capacity License - Reports for Monitoring Capacity
The Capacity dashboard is located in the Licensing and Registration dialog box. The dashboard provides a summary on the usage details for each of the capacity licenses. The usage is calculated based amount of data that has been protected.
You can save the report as a PDF or MHTML file and use it for audit purposes. For example, when the capacity usage exceeds the available capacity, you can send the report file to your software provider to request a new license with an upgraded capacity.
The capacity usage details in the report are updated every 24 hours, unless a data aging job runs or if the CommServe services are restarted.
Use the following steps to view the report.
From the CommCell Console ribbon, on the Home tab, click Licensing and Registration.
- In the Licensing and Registration dialog box, the report is displayed in the Capacity tab.
The license capacity graph is displayed. You can click Save if you want to save the report as a file.
While the License Usage by Capacity report provides a high level summary of the capacity usage, the License Summary Report provides granular details of the current capacity usage, such as the amount of data backed up by a specific agent. You can use this report to perform an overall license analysis and determine which components use more or less capacity.
Use the following steps to generate the report.
From the CommCell Console ribbon, click the Reports tab and then click Other Reports | License Summary.
- In the General tab of the Report Selection dialog box, click the Include Capacity Details check box.
- Click the Output tab and select the output format option for the report.
- Click Run to generate the report.
To see an example of this report, see License Summary Report.
The capacity details in the License Summary Report can be found in the Capacity Usage and Usage Tracking Summary tables.
The Capacity Usage table groups the capacity information in three sections:
- Total Capacity
Displays the total amount of data that can be backed up for each capacity license.
- Capacity Usage - Group by Agent
Displays the amount of data backed up by an agent for each capacity license. The amount is also referred to as capacity consumption.
- <Capacity by job>
Displays the amount of data backed up by each valid job that has run in the CommCell, along with other details such as the type of job and the client it belongs.
Usage Tracking Summary
The Usage Tracking Summary table provides a summary of the overall CommCell usage. It displays a list of categories which represent some components in the CommCell. For example, the Protected Clients category shows:
- (Total column) The total number of File System clients in the CommCell.
- (Used column) The number of File System clients that backed up their data.
The following table describes what CommCell components are included and excluded for each category:
|Category||What is Included?||What is Excluded?|
|Counts all active File System clients on the CommCell. This includes all servers, NAS and Desktop/Laptop clients that have the File System iDataAgent installed.||Deconfigured clients / agents; Evaluation clients|
Protected Virtual Machines
|Counts all active, uniquely named Virtual Machines protected in active Virtual Server Agent subclients.||Disabled subclients; Evaluation clients|
|Counts all active archived clients: OnePass for Windows, UNIX, and NAS (including Hitachi HNAS (BlueArc), Celerra, NetApp, Isilon and other file servers) as well as File Archiver agents.
The count is based on clients with the Archive Management agent installed.
|Disabled subclients; Evaluation clients|
Advanced Search Nodes
|Counts all Content Indexed nodes with Automatic Content Classification (Content Director) features used in the CommCell. This includes index, admin or mixed nodes.||Evaluation nodes|
|Counts all active, uniquely named mailboxes found in subclients configured for offline content indexing policies.||Disabled subclients; Evaluation clients|
Disk Library Capacity (TB)
|Total used space of all disk library mount paths in the CommCell. The space is displayed in TB units (standard disk footprint = SDO capacity)|
Deduplication Active Store Capacity (TB)
|Total used space of all disk library mount paths under active Deduplication Databases in the CommCell. The space is displayed in TB units (Deduplication footprint = Advanced Disk [ADO] or Consolidated Data Storage Option [CDSO] capacity)||Sealed Deduplication Databases|
|Counts all active, uniquely named archived mailboxes in active Exchange Archiver, Exchange Compliance Archiver, Domino Mailbox Archiver, and OnePass for Exchange Mailbox.||Disabled subclients; Evaluation clients|
Content Indexed Objects (In Millions)
|Counts all Content Indexed nodes used in the CommCell. This includes index, admin or mixed nodes.||Evaluation nodes|
CPU Sockets on Hypervisor Hosts
|Counts all CPU sockets on a physical Hypervisor host based on the last successful backup (full or synthetic full) of a virtual machine residing in the host.||Hypervisor host where backup jobs do not complete on any of the virtual machines residing in the host.|
