Licensing and Registration (Registration)

Use this dialog box to view general licensing details as well as the status of your CommServe registration.

  • CommCell ID

    Displays the CommCell ID (a hexadecimal value). If an evaluation license is being used, the CommCell ID is displayed as fffffff. The correct CommCell ID is displayed when you update the evaluation license with a permanent license.

  • CommServe IP Address

    Displays the IP address of the CommServe computer. If an evaluation license is being used, the IP address is displayed as fffffff. An encoded IP address is displayed when you update the evaluation license with a permanent license.

  • License IP Address

    Displays the IP address of the computer where the CommServe database is hosted.

    • If the database resides in the CommServe computer (traditional scenario), then the IP address is the same as CommServe IP Address.
    • If an evaluation license is being used, the IP address is displayed as 255.255.255.255.
  • Expiration Date

    (This information is displayed only if you are using an evaluation license or a leased license).

    Displays the expiration date for the CommServe evaluation license.

  • DR Server IP Address

    (This information is displayed only if a license for the Disaster Recovery server has been activated).

    Displays the IP address of the Disaster Recovery server. In the event of a disaster, the CommServe database can be staged on the Disaster Recovery server.

  • Edition

    Displays the name of the software vendor.

  • License Mode

    If the CommServe is installed on a computer with the primary CommServe IP address, this value is displayed as Production. If the CommServe is installed on a computer with the DR Server IP address (if the event of a disaster or otherwise), this value is displayed as DR.

  • Serial No.

    Displays a unique serial number for the CommCell (a combination of 22 characters). Unlike the CommCell ID, the serial number never changes.

  • Registration Code

    Displays the CommCell registration code (a combination of 10 characters). The registration code links the CommCell with the account of the user that registered the CommCell.

Register

If the CommServe computer is not registered, use this option to register the CommServe computer by using either an existing Cloud Services account or creating a new account.

Export Registration Details

If you need to order a new license, or activate a license, or send any other related request to your software provider, use this option to save your current license details in a text file. You can include the text file in the email that you plan to send to your software provider.

Licensing and Registration (Capacity)

Use this dialog box to view the usage details for each of the capacity-based licenses. The usage is calculated based amount of data that has been protected. The usage details are updated every 24 hours.

CommCell Status

Indicates if the current license usage is within the available capacity or if the usage exceeded the available capacity. The over-capacity status is displayed when the capacity usage for a license reaches 110%.

Backup (Percent)

This graph displays the amount of space available and consumed by backup jobs for the Backup license. This license also supports backup operations with deduplication and secondary encryptions.

Archive (Percent)

This graph displays the amount of space available and consumed by archive jobs for the Archive license. This license also supports archiving operations with deduplication and secondary encryptions.

Replication (Percent)

This graph displays the amount of space available and consumed by SnapVault and SnapMirror jobs for the Replication license. SnapVault and SnapMirror jobs create a secondary copy of the snapshot, which are called vault or mirror copies.

Snapshot (Percent)

This graph displays the amount of space available and consumed by SnapProtect backup jobs for the Snapshot license. This license supports SnapProtect operations for all the hardware storage arrays currently supported.

Reset

Click to reset the usage for all the capacity-based licenses.

When the license usage reaches 110%, backup operations go into pending state. When you click the Reset button, the CommServe resumes the backup operations for a grace period of 96 hours. You can reset the capacity usage for a total of 8 times.

Licensing and Registration (Usage)

Use this dialog box to view the usage details for each of the CAL licenses. The usage is calculated based amount of protected virtual machines, archived mailboxes, and content indexed objects. The usage details are updated every 24 hours.

CommCell Status

Indicates if the CAL licenses are within the available usage or if the usage was exceeded. The over-usage status is displayed when the usage for a CAL license reaches 110%.

Deduplication Active Store Capacity (Percent)

This license is currently not being enforced.

This graph displays the license usage (in percentage) based on the amount of deduplicated data on all disk library mount paths associated to deduplicated storage policies. The usage limit (100%) represents the total amount of deduplicated data you can have on your disk libraries.

Archived Mailboxes (Percent)

This graph displays the license usage (in percentage) based on the number of all active Exchange and Notes mailboxes archived in the CommCell. The usage limit (100%) represents the total number of archived mailboxes you can have.

Content Indexed Objects (Percent)

This graph displays the license usage (in percentage) based on the number of objects/documents that are content indexed on a Search Engine. The usage limit (100%) represents the total number of objects/documents you can content index.

CPU Sockets on Hypervisor Hosts (Percent)

This graph displays the license usage (in percentage) based on the number of CPU sockets configured on a physical Hypervisor host. The usage limit (100%) represents the total number of sockets you can have in your virtual server environment.

Application Class Virtual (Percent)

This graph displays the license usage (in percentage) based on the traditional backups and AppAware SnapProtect backups for applications installed on virtual machines. The usage limit (100%) represents the total number of application data that you can have backed up in your virtual server environment.

Protected Virtual Machines (Percent)

This graph displays the license usage (in percentage) based on all the virtual machines with unique CommCell IDs that are protected by active subclients. The usage limit (100%) represents the total number of virtual machines you can have.

Appliance Store Usage (Percent)

This graph displays the license usage (in percentage) based on the amount of backup data on all disk library mount paths configured in your SnapProtect Appliance. The usage limit (100%) represents the total amount of backup data you can have on your disk libraries.

Reset

Click to reset the usage for all the CAL licenses.

Licensing and Registration (License Details)

Use this dialog box to see the number of licenses you have and to review the type of licenses you are using. For example, you can see the total number of permanent licenses you have and determine which licenses are Evaluation Licenses.

  • License Type

    Displays the license names, which can be either traditional (feature and product-based), capacity-based, or CAL licenses.

  • Group

    Indicates the group to which a license is associated:

    • Capacity License and Usage Based License groups are for the capacity-based and CAL licenses respectively.
    • All other groups refer to traditional licenses (cell, feature, and product-based).
  • Permanent Used

    Indicates the number of permanent licenses used for the selected license type.

  • Permanent Total

    Indicates the number of available permanent licenses.

  • Evaluation Used

    Indicates the number of evaluation licenses used for the selected license type.

  • Evaluation Available

    Indicates the number of available evaluation licenses.

Evaluation Usage

Click to view the clients using Evaluation licenses.

Licensing and Registration (Apply License)

Use this dialog box to apply a new license or to determine which clients (installed with evaluation licenses) require permanent licenses.

Apply License

  • Use Local Disk

    Select this option to specify a local path for the license file.

  • Use Network Share

    Select this option to specify a network share for the license file.

  • License File

    Specifies the location where the license file resides. Click Browse to locate the license file.

  • User Account

    If the license file is in a network share, it displays the user account that has sufficient privileges to access the network share.

  • Change

    Click to use a different user account.

  • Apply

    Click to apply the new license.

Convert

Use this button to select the clients whose evaluation license needs to be converted to permanent.

Licensing and Registration (License Summary)

This dialog box provides a license summary report of your CommCell environment, such as the server ID and the following license information:

  • Details about your organization.
  • License type (permanent or evaluation) and OEM details.
  • CommServe IP address and disaster recovery IP address (if applicable).
  • Activation key.
  • Number of evaluation days (if applicable).

SKU's / Part Numbers

A unique numerical description assigned to a license type.

Evaluation Usage

Use this dialog box to view which clients are using evaluation licenses. You can also view general details about the licenses, such as expiration date.

Client

The name of the client associated with the license.

License Type

Displays the license names, which can be either traditional (feature and product-based), capacity-based, or CAL licenses.

Install Date

The date the license was activated.

Expiration Date

The expiration date for the evaluation license.

Convert

Use this dialog box to select the licenses that need to be activated for clients with evaluation licenses.

License Type

The license associated with the specific software component.

Client

The name of the client associated with the license.

Convert

Click to activate the license.

Available

Indicates whether the license is available.

Open

Use this dialog box to locate the license file to be activated in the CommCell.

Release License for Client

Use this dialog box to select the licenses that you want to release from a client. This is useful when you no longer require a permanent license on the client. For example, if the client is being retired, you can release the license and use it later for another client.

Licenses Consumed

Displays the licenses that are being used by the client computer.

Licenses to Release

Displays the licenses that you selected to release.
