Installing the MediaAgent Software

  1. Install the MediaAgent software on the new MediaAgent.

    For instructions, see MediaAgent Installation.

  2. The following steps are crucial during installation.
    1. Select the components that was recorded earlier in the old MediaAgent.

      Tip: When the MediaAgent is selected, VSS Provider, File System Core and Windows File System are automatically selected. This is ok.

    2. From the Policy Selection page, do not select any storage policy from the Storage Policy list during the installation.

Installing the Latest Service Pack

The latest Service Pack is automatically installed if you have used the latest SnapProtect media kit. Verify the service pack information as follows.

  1. From the CommCell Browser, expand Storage Resources | MediaAgents.
  2. Right-click the appropriate MediaAgent, and then click Properties.
  3. Click the Version tab.
  4. Under the Version information, verify that the Service Pack is same as the Service Pack recorded in the old MediaAgent.

    If Service Pack version number is same, then click OK.

    If Service Pack version number is not the same, then install the latest service pack.

Configuring a Firewall

Moving the DDB to the New MediaAgent

  1. Restart the services on the old MediaAgent.
    1. From the old MediaAgent computer, on the Start menu, click All Programs | SnapProtect, and then click Process Manager.

      The Process Manager dialog box appears.

    2. On the Service tab, right-click All Services, and then click Start.
  2. Move the DDB from old to new MediaAgent.
    1. From the CommCell Browser, expand Storage Resources > Deduplication Engines > storage_policy_copy.
    2. Right-click the deduplication_database, and then click Move Partitions.
    3. In the Target MediaAgent And Partition Path column, click Choose Path to change the location of the appropriate partition.
    4. From the MediaAgent list, select the new MediaAgent.
    5. In the Partition Path, enter the file path where you want to locate the DDB, and then click OK.
    6. Click OK.

      A Move Partition job appears in the Job Controller window. The job moves the DDB files from the old MediaAgent to the new MediaAgent.

  3. Once the DDB move is successful, stop the services on the old MediaAgent.
    1. From the old MediaAgent computer, on the Start menu, click All Programs | SnapProtect, and then click Process Manager.

      The Process Manager dialog box appears.

    2. On the Service tab, right-click All Services, and then click Stop.

Migrating Libraries to the New MediaAgent

Disk Library

If you have a disk library, you can move the local or network mount paths in the library to another location on the new MediaAgent. For instructions, see Move Mount Path.

Cloud Library

If you have a cloud library, then share the new MediaAgent with the cloud library.

  1. From the CommCell Browser, expand Storage Resources > Libraries > cloud_library.
  2. Right-click mount_path and then click Properties.
  3. On the Sharing tab, select the device and then click Share.
  4. In the Sharing Mount Path dialog box, select the MediaAgent, and then click OK.

    The new MediaAgent is now shared with the Cloud Library.

Tape Library

If you have a tape library, the library should be connected to the new MediaAgent.

Ensure that the appropriate drivers for the devices are loaded and that the operating system is able to identify the devices. For more information, see Driver Configurations.

Detect the devices and reconfigure the library.

  1. On the ribbon in the CommCell Console, click the Storage tab, and then click Expert Storage Configuration.
  2. In the Expert Storage Configuration dialog box, under Available MediaAgents, select the old and new MediaAgents, and then click Add.
  3. Click OK.

    A message appears that asks you to configure the library.

  4. Click OK.
  5. On the Expert Storage Configuration dialog box, click Start, and then click Detect/Config Devices.
  6. Click OK.

    When the detection process completes, the log file appears.

  7. Click Close.

    A message appears, that asks you to right-click the device to configure.

  8. Click OK.
  9. Right-click the library that you need to configure, and then click Configure.
  10. In the Configuration dialog box, click Library and all drives, and then click OK.

    A message appears, that asks you if your library has a barcode reader.

  11. Click Yes.

    The status of the library changes to configured.

Setting the New MediaAgent as a Data Path

Once the library (disk/cloud/tape) is migrated successfully, you must make the new MediaAgent the default data path for all the Storage Policies that were associated with the old MediaAgent.
  1. From the CommCell Browser, expand Policies > Storage Policies > storage_policy.
  2. Right-click the appropriate storage policy copy, and then click Properties.
  3. Click the Data Path tab, and then click Add.
  4. In the Copy Data Path Candidates dialog box, select the new MediaAgent, and then click OK.
  5. Select the new MediaAgent, and then click Set Default.
  6. Click OK.

Enabling Job Activities

Enable all job activities on each client.
  1. From the CommCell Browser, expand Client Computers.
  2. Right-click the appropriate client, and then click Properties.
  3. Click the Activity Control tab.
  4. Select the Enable Backup and Enable Restore check boxes.
  5. Click OK.
