Modifying PodCell Properties

If the PodCell properties provided during registration was incorrect, you can configure or modify additional PodCell properties such as:

  • Client group name
  • Prefix for imported entities
  • Schedule for monitoring job
  • Assigning destination MediaAgent to imported libraries. For more information, refer to Restore Data from imported clients
  1. From the CommCell Browser of the Global Repository Cell, right-click the CommServe node, point to All Tasks, and then click CommCell Registration.
  2. Right-click the registered CommCell, and then click CommCell Properties.
  3. The Remote CommCell Properties dialog box appears. See Remote CommCell Properties for details on each option.

Re-Registering PodCell

If the host name of the PodCell provided during registration was incorrect or if the PodCell CommServe machine name was changed, then the monitoring job might fail or sent into a pending state and you will receive an error. In this case, you can re-register the PodCell by providing the correct host name of the PodCell CommServe.

  1. From the CommCell Browser of the Global Repository Cell, right-click the CommServe node, Right-click the <CommServe> node and then click All Tasks | CommCell Registration.
  2. Right-click the registered CommCell, and then click CommCell Properties.

    The Remote CommCell Properties dialog box is displayed.

  3. Click Re-Register CommCell.

    Register Remote CommCell dialog box appears.

  4. In the User Name box, type the PodCell user name. In the Password box, type the PodCell password.

    The user must have similar Administrative Management capabilities configured at the CommCell levels on both the PodCell and the Global Repository Cell.

  5. In the CommCell Host Name, do one of the following:
    • If the PodCell CommServe is not behind a firewall, type the hostname of the PodCell in the CommCell Host Name box.
    • If the PodCell CommServe is behind a firewall, select the Select CommServe client located across a firewall check box, and then select the pseudo client name from the list.

      If the pseudo client for the PodCell is not created in the Global Repository Cell, then create the pseudo client. To set up the connection route between the PodCell and the Global Repository Cell, see Firewall for instructions.

  6. Click OK.

    The CommCell registered successfully message box is displayed.

  7. Click OK.

Verifying CommCell Connectivity

If the PodCell is offline, the CommCell Export jobs cannot run as per the schedule. To verify status (online or offline) of the PodCell connectivity, perform following steps.

  1. From the CommCell Browser of the Global Repository Cell, right-click the CommServe node, point to All Tasks, and then click CommCell Registration.
  2. Right-click the registered CommCell, and then click CommCell Properties.

    The Remote CommCell Properties dialog box appears.

  3. Click Check Connectivity.
  4. Click OK.

Modifying the Monitoring Job Schedule

  1. From the CommCell Browser of the Global Repository Cell, right-click the CommServe node, point to All Tasks, and then CommCell Registration.
  2. Right-click the registered CommCell, and then click CommCell Properties.

    The Remote CommCell Properties dialog box is displayed.

  3. Click the Schedule Pattern tab.
  4. Change the schedule.
  5. Click OK.
  6. From the CommCell Browser of the Global Repository Cell, right-click the CommServe node, and click View | Schedules.

Deleting PodCell

  1. In the CommCell Registration dialog box, right-click the CommCell you want to delete.
  2. Click Delete.
  3. The database entries will remain but the CommCell will be hidden from the GUI. Communication between the two CommCells will no longer be possible though.

Reports

You can run the following reports to ensure that the metadata of clients in imported into Global Repository Cell as per the monitoring schedule:

  • CommCell Export Job Summary Report - Run this report in the PodCell. This report displays the information about export jobs that run in the CommCell. For more information, go to CommCell Export Job Summary Report.
  • CommCell Import Job Summary Report - Run this report in the Global Repository Cell. This report displays the information about import jobs that run in the CommCell. For more information, go to CommCell Import Job Summary Report.
