HDS Replication

The Hitachi Data Systems (HDS) Replication feature creates a replica copy on a remote array, in addition to the primary snapshot copy on the local array.

The HDS Replication feature supports Hitachi Universal Replicator (HUR) asynchronous remote replication and Hitachi TrueCopy synchronous replication.

Key Features

The key features of the HDS Replication feature are as follows:

  • The primary copy and the replica copy are independent of each other, and can have separate retention policies.
  •  The replica copy is crash consistent.

Limitations

The limitations of the HDS Replication feature are as follows:

  • The HDS Replication feature does not support the revert operation for either the snapshot copy or the replica copies.
  • The HDS Replication feature does not support snapshots of clones.
  • You can create the HUR or the TrueCopy remote replication only using the Command Control Interface (CCI).

Supported Agents

The agents that the HDS Replication feature supports are as follows:

  • DB2
  • Exchange Database
  • Microsoft Hyper-V
  • Microsoft SQL Server
  • Notes Database
  • Oracle
  • SAP for Oracle
  • VMware
  • Windows File System

For a virtual storage machine (VSM), the agents that the HDS Replication feature supports are as follows:

  • Microsoft Hyper-V
  • VMware
  • Windows File System

Configuration Process

To configure the HDS Replication feature, complete the following process:

  1. Create the HDS replica copy.
  2. Configure Array Management for the HDS Replication feature.
