Associating an External User to a CommCell User Group Using the Command Line Interface

Use XML to associate one or more users from a external domain to a user group. This is useful when you want to add a specific domain user to a user group instead of associating the entire domain or external group.

You can include the XML parameters in the xml file, or you can specify them on the command line when they frequently change. For more information on command line parameters and XML elements, see Command Line - Syntax.

Before You Begin

Configure the domain in the CommCell. For information, see Adding a Domain Controller for Active Directory or Adding a Domain Controller for Domino Directory Services.

About This Task

By default, a domain user does not become a registered CommCell user until he or she logs on to the CommCell Console for the first time. Based on this criterion, use one of the following procedures:

Procedure

If the domain user never logged on to the CommCell

  1. Run the qlogin command to log on to the CommServe computer.
  2. Download the create_user_template.xml file to the computer where you will run the command.
  3. Open the create_user_template.xml file, add your specific parameters, and save the file.

For information on supported XML parameters, see XML Parameters for User Operations.

  4. On the command line, go to software_installation_directory/Base and type the command.

Note: When you add an external user to a user group, enter the user name using this format: domain_name\user_name.

    qoperation execute -af create_user_template.xml -userEntity/userName domain_name\user_name -associatedUserGroups/userGroupName user_group_name

  5. Run the qlogout command to log off the CommServe computer.

If the domain user already logged on to the CommCell

  1. Run the qlogin command to log on to the CommServe computer.
  2. Download the modify_user_template.xml file to the computer where you will run the command.
  3. Open the modify_user_template.xml file, add your specific parameters, and save the file.

For information on supported XML parameters, see XML Parameters for User Operations.

  4. On the command line, go to software_installation_directory/Base and type the command.

Note: When you add an external user to a user group, enter the user name using this format: domain_name\user_name.

    qoperation execute -af modify_user_template.xml -userEntity/userName domain_name\user_name -associatedUserGroups/userGroupName user_group_name

  5. Run the qlogout command to log off the CommServe computer.

Result

When a domain user is associated to a user group, the CommCell starts to display the domain user under the CommCell Users and user_group nodes in the CommCell browser.
