Deployment - SnapProtect for Microsoft Hyper-V
To set up your environment for SnapProtect, install the Virtual Server Agent (VSA) and the MediaAgent on each Hyper-V node that will provide backup and recovery services:
- The Virtual Server Agent and MediaAgent can be deployed on a standalone Hyper-V server or a node in a Hyper-V cluster. Multiple VSA proxies can provide load distribution and load balancing to improve the backup and restore performance. MediaAgents manage the transmission of data between clients and backup media.
- Agents can be deployed on guest VMs to support backup and restore operations for clients that have specific file systems, applications, or databases.
Note: To use the SnapProtect Changed Block Tracking (CBT) feature for Hyper-V hosts or clusters that are running Windows Server 2012 R2, install the VSA on all Hyper-V nodes in a cluster. If you are not using the SnapProtect CBT feature with Windows Server 2012 R2, install the VSA only on the nodes that will provide backup and recovery services.Review each of the following topics to get started with the installation:
- Prepare the Installation on Windows Computers
Review general guidelines to prepare for the installation, which include configurations that your computer might need before the installation.
- Preinstallation Checklist for the Virtual Server Agent and the MediaAgent
Review agent specific guidelines to prepare for the installation, such as gathering the information that you must provide during the installation.
- Installation Methods
Select the installation method that is most appropriate for your environment.
