License Requirements for Virtual Server Agent with Nutanix AHV
By default, the Virtual Server Agent is installed using an evaluation license. When the evaluation period ends, you must obtain a permanent license.
You can choose to use one of the following licensing mechanisms:
- Traditional License: This license is based on the products and features in your CommCell.
- Capacity License: This license is based on the amount of data you want to protect.
- Client Access License: This license is based on the number of virtual machines or CPU sockets.
For comprehensive information about licensing, see License Administration.
The following license types are required for the Virtual Server Agent. Obtain the appropriate licenses based on your environment.
|Agent or component||License type|
|Virtual Server Agent||Virtual Server|
If you plan to use capacity licenses, you must obtain the following license:
|License type||License consumption|
|Backup||1 license per CommCell for n Terabytes (TB) of protected data|
Client Access Licenses
The following licenses are available for virtual machines:
|License Type||License Consumption|
|Virtual Machines||1 license per protected virtual machine|
|Protected Virtual Machines||1 license per protected virtual machine|
|CPU Sockets on Hypervisor Hosts||1 license per CommCell for n number of sockets|
The Virtual Machines license is used with traditional agent-based licensing.
The Protected Virtual Machines and CPU Sockets on Hypervisor Hosts licenses provide alternative methods of virtual machine licensing. If you apply either of these licenses on a CommCell environment monitored by capacity licenses, Virtual Server Agent jobs will not count towards capacity, causing the capacity usage to decrease.
