Instance Protection for OpenStack

OpenStack is an open source management stack that provides a consistent interface over one or more hypervisors, providing processing, storage, and networking resources through a data center or keystone node.

SnapProtect  provides data protection and recovery for instances or images.

You can perform full, incremental, differential, or synthetic full backups. The first backup of an instance or image is always a full backup, regardless of the selected backup type. Backups are crash consistent.

You can restore full instances, images, files, and folders.

Only streaming backups are supported.

SnapProtect  Overview

SnapProtect  data protection operations are managed through the CommCell Console. You can use the CommCell Console to configure a virtualization client and other entities that are used to support operations.

A virtualization client is the access point for an OpenStack keystone node. You must define a virtualization client for a keystone node that provides access to an OpenStack deployment and provide keystone credentials that enable you to connect to the node.

When you create an OpenStack virtualization client, the SnapProtect  software automatically creates an OpenStack instance, a backup set, and a default subclient that can be used to protect all instances from any compute nodes in the OpenStack deployment. You can create additional subclients to perform separate protection operations for different groups of instances. For example, you can create different subclients for different protection levels, and use the default subclient to protect any remaining instances.
