Snapshot Copy

A Snapshot Copy is a storage policy copy for SnapProtect backup operations. To use a Snapshot Copy, create the Snapshot Copy with the steps below and run a backup copy operation to copy the data from the snapshot to the selected media.

Use the following steps to create a Snapshot copy for a Storage Policy:

  1. From the CommCell Browser, navigate to Policies | Storage Policies.
  2. Right-click the <Storage Policy> and click All Tasks | Create New Snapshot Copy
  3. In the Snap Copy Properties dialog box, enter the copy name in the Copy Name field.
  4. Select the Library, MediaAgent, Drive Pool and Scratch Pool from the lists (not applicable for disk libraries).
  5. Click OK.

Offline Snap Copy Job Summary Report

When you select the Backup Copy option, the Offline Snap Copy Job Summary Report is created. The Backup Copy Job Summary Report displays information about backup copy jobs for each storage policy.

To generate the report:

  1. On the CommCell Console menu bar, select the Reports tab, and then click the Summary button. The Report Selection dialog box appears.

  2. On the General tab, select Administrative Jobs, and then select Backup Copy Work Flow.

  3. Click Run.

    The report appears in your default Web browser.

Protecting vCenter Server

You can protect the database and files on a vCenter server using the virtualization client.  Follow the steps given below to protect the vCenter server:

  1. From the CommCell Console, expand the Client Computers node
  2. Right-click the <VMware vCenter client> and select Properties.
  3. Click Edit.
  4. Enter the hostname of the computer where you have setup the vCenter server.
  5. Click OK.
  6. Install Microsoft SQL Server iDataAgent and Windows File System iDataAgent on the <VMware vCenter client>.
