By default, quiescing is enabled for VMware backups. Quiescing pauses or alters the state of running processes on a computer, especially those that might modify information stored on disk during a backup. Quiescing the operating system and applications helps to guarantee a consistent and usable backup that includes pending transactions.
To disable quiescing before performing backups:
- From the CommCell Console, navigate to Client Computers > virtualization_client > Virtual Server > VMware > backup_set.
- Right-click a subclient and click Properties.
- Click the Backup Options tab.
- Under Virtual Machine Backup Type, select Crash Consistent.
- Click OK.
When you perform the backup of the subclient, quiescing will not be performed on the virtual machines in the subclient.
